Al Madrigal is an American stand-up comedian, film & television actor, and writer.
Perhaps best known for co-starring in the CBS prime-time situation comedies Gary Unmarried with Jay Mohr and Welcome to The Captain with Jeffrey Tambor and Raquel Welch, Al Madrigal is also a regular sketch performer on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and appears on other network shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Raised in San Francisco by a Sicilian mother and a Mexican-born father, Al Madrigal often assumes a caricature of himself on stage, dealing with the dilemmas of being, what he calls, a "half breed." His flair for storytelling and spontaneous, fast-paced lyrical style focus his observational comedy and satire on human behavior, family and fatherhood, and the struggle of contemporary American culture to juxtapose itself with it's rapidly-emerging immigrant subcultures.
Al Madrigal appears frequently on Comedy Central in shows such as Reel Comedy with Wes Anderson, Live from South Beach with Cheech Marin, and Comedy Central Presents Al Madrigal, as well as on HBO's Comedy Minutos and their Aspen Comedy Arts Festivals—where he swept the Jury Award for Best Stand-Up Comedian of 2004.
Madrigal, who is represented by CAA, recently shot the NBC pilot Americana with Alyson Hannigan, co-wrote the pilot for an untitled Al Madrigal project at Fox, wrote and produced a new children's cartoon for Nickelodeon that is currently in production, also does some voice acting and is emerging on the big screen with recent castings in the feature films Lies & Illusions starring Christian Slater and Frankenhood starring Charlie Murphy.
When he's not in production Al Madrigal tours extensively—across the U.S. and internationally. Headlining at The Improv, Comedy Store and Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, the Tropicana, Palms, Harrah's and House of Blues in Vegas, Comix and Caroline's in New York, and countless clubs and colleges in-between, Madrigal also works the international comedy festival circuit playing Melbourne, Seattle, Aspen, Montreal, Toronto, London, Rotterdam, Dublin and Dubai.
Al Madrigal also makes time each year to provide charity fund-raising performances benefitting youth literacy, creative writing and affordable healthcare by hosting the annual 826Valencia Benefit with Dave Eggers, the Stand Up for Dan Crawford benefit for the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic, and performing at the annual 826LA Benefit in Los Angeles, among others.
Al Madrigal and his half-Greek, half-Korean wife Krystyn live in Los Angeles with their two young children, who, for some unknown reason, look as white as can be. Al recently learned the proper pronunciation of his Mexican last name, which has him thinking about actually learning Spanish some day.
